Bulk Modifications

    In this tutorial you will learn how to perform bulk modifications to multiple domains at once. These bulk modifications include record changes (any record type), importing, exporting, vanity nameserver changes and changes to domain settings like GTD and GeoIP Services.

1. Select Bulk Update

A. Navigate to Managed DNS > Domains.

B. Next click on Advanced Options and select Bulk Update from the dropdown menu. 

2. Select Domains

A. Search for your domains or enter them separated by commas into the search box. You can also search by GTD region, template, or by vanity nameserver.

B. Select the domains you would like to update.

3. Choose Modification to Make 

In this screen you can choose to make bulk updates to your records, domain settings, bulk export, bulk import and apply a custom SOA across multiple domains by selecting one of the tabs at the top of the screen.

4. Make Bulk Modification

Records

A. Select if you want to Update, Remove or create a New record.
B. Select the record type to modify, you can choose any record type (SOA modification is done in the far right tab).

C. Enter record values. This screen will vary for each different record type that you choose.
D. Once you finish entering the values, click Preview.

E. Review the changes you are about to apply across multiple domains, once you are satisfied, click Save.

Settings

A. Turn GTD on or off by selecting Yes or No or select No Change to leave it as is.
B. Turn GeoIP Services on or off by selecting Yes or No or select No Change to leave it as is.
C. Select a template to apply by it's name, remove templates by selecting None, or select No Change to leave it as is.
D. Select a Vanity Nameserver configuration by it's name to apply it, remove Vanity NS by selecting None, or select No Change to leave it as is.
E. Click Save when you are done.

Reporting

At this time, the only bulk export function is in JSON format, click Export to download the zones for all selected domains.

Import

You can import records by template, an existing domain in Constellix, or by AXFR transfer.

To import by Template:

A. Select Template in the dropdown
B. Select the check box to remove all existing records in the domains and replace them with those in the template, leave it unchecked to keep the existing records from being removed
C. Select the template you want to apply
D. Click Import to finalize


To import by Domain:

A. Select Domain from the dropdown
B. Select the check box to remove all existing records in the domains to be modified and replace them with those in the selected domain, leave it unchecked to keep the existing records from being removed
C. Select the domain that you want to import records from
D. Click Import to finalize

To import by AXFR Transfer:

Note: This method of import will replace all existing records, therefore the checkbox is greyed out.

A. Select Nameserver (AXFR) from the dropdown
B. Enter the IP address of the nameserver you are trying to import records from.
C. Click Import to finalize

SOA

A. Computer: The FQDN of a primary name server for this zone.
BEmail: A domain-name (FQDN) that specifies the mailbox of the person responsible for this zone.
C. TTL: The number of seconds that this SOA record will be cached in other resolving name servers. Recommend value – 86400 (24 Hours)

D. Refresh Time: The time interval (in seconds) before the zone should be refreshed. Recommended value – 86400 (24 Hours)

E. Retry Time: The time interval (in seconds) before a failed refresh should be retried. Recommended value – 7200 (2 Hours)
F. Expiry Time: The time internal (in seconds) that specifies the upper limit on the time internally that can elapse before the zone is no longer authoritative. This is when the secondary name servers will expire if they are unable to refresh. Recommended value – up to 2419200 (672 Hours)
G. Negative Cache: The amount of time a record not found is cached. Recommended values can vary, between 180 and 172800 (3 min - 2 days)
H. Save: Save your record changes.
