Migrate from DNS Made Easy to Constellix

Overview

If you are migrating from our sister company DNS Made Easy, you can quickly and easily move all of your DNS records, Global Traffic Director configurations, DNS templates, and domains with API. This tutorial will guide you through the API migration process.

Note: Failover settings cannot be transferred and will need to be reconfigured manually.

Prerequisites

  • You are a business or corporate-level DNS Made Easy member
  • You have a basic understanding of API calls

Note: If your DNS Made Easy membership level does not include API, you will need to transfer your domain manually. Visit our Manually Add and Configure Domains tutorial or submit a support ticket if you need help with a manual transfer.

How to Migrate From DNS Made Easy to Constellix Using API

1. Log in to Your DNS Made Easy Account  and Navigate to Account Information

Once you have logged in to the DNS Made Easy Control Panel, hover over the Config menu at the top-right of the screen and then select Account Information from the dropdown options.

2. Retrieve DNS Made Easy API Credentials

Scroll to the bottom of the Account Information page to access your API key and your Secret key. If you have not yet created an API key in DNS Made Easy, check the box next to Generate New API Credentials and then click Save. Your credentials will now be displayed.

2. Log into Constellix and Navigate to Configuration > 3rd Party Import

In another browser tab, log into the Constellix control panel. In the left-hand menu, click the option for Configuration and then select 3rd Party Import.

3. Select DNS Made Easy and Enter API Credentials in Constellix

Once on the 3rd Party Import page, click on the gray + icon to expand DNS Made Easy API options.

After clicking on the + icon, you will see an option to add API key and Secret key. Copy the keys from your DNS Made Easy account and paste them into the appropriate fields. Next, click the green Continue button.

4. Select the Domains and Templates You Want to Import Into Constellix

You will now see a list of all DNS Made Easy domains and templates (optional) available for import. Check the box next to each domain and template you want to import. Optionally, you can choose the “select all” option to import every one of your domains and templates into Constellix.

Note: If there are any conflicting domains that cannot be imported, they will be listed at the bottom of the page.

Next, click the green Continue button at the top or bottom of the page.

Note: If you are importing a template with the same name as an existing template in your Constellix account, you will be prompted to rename the template being imported (see example below). If this happens, simply rename the template and click the green Save button and then click the Continue button on the domains list page again.

5. Confirm Import

You will now need to confirm the import. After verifying that the correct domains and templates are being imported, click Continue to complete the import process.

Important: Before updating your nameservers, we recommend verifying that your imported DNS records match what was in your DNS Made Easy account. To avoid any unnecessary downtime due to propagation time, please wait 24-72 hours before deleting the DNS records from DNS Made Easy.

6. Update Your Registrar With Constellix Nameservers

After selecting Continue in the above step, you will see a list of Constellix nameservers and the list of domains and templates you imported. Update your registrar to reflect the supplied Constellix nameservers and then click Done.

Once finished, you will automatically be redirected to the Domains page of the Constellix dashboard, which will display the imported domains along with any existing domains in your Constellix account (if any). If the imported domains had GTD configurations, records, or templates applied to them, it will be noted in the right-hand column of the list.

Remember: Failover configurations are not imported and must be reconfigured manually.
